“This City won’t wash away. This City won’t ever drown…” Steve Earle’s words echo through This City, the highly anticipated new album from The Heavyweights Brass Band.
For this, their third full-length album, the Heavyweights made a pilgrimage to the place where it all began. Recorded in New Orleans with a second-line parade of special guests – including Joe Lastie from the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Roger Lewis from the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Ashlin Parker from the Ellis Marsalis Quartet, and Marla Walters founder of the Shotgun Jazz Band – the Heavyweights offer a fresh, energetic take on the New Orleans tradition.
Not forgetting their heroes in Toronto, the album also furthers their powerful collaborations with the great guitarist Kevin Breit and legendary vocalist Jackie Richardson. The New Orleans brass band tradition is alive and well and moving forward with The Heavyweights Brass Band.
