GreBu Records is thrilled to announce the release of Let’s Not Wait, the second ever album dedicated exclusively to  the compositions and arrangements of the legendary New York composer, arranger and drummer Ed Bonoff. Not since the great trombonist Eddie Bert released his wonderful 1997 recording The Human Factor has this been accomplished. Bert’s solid and swinging interpretations of Bonoff’s compositions were supported by a stellar band which included drummer Mel Lewis, bassist Ray Drummond, Duke Jordan on piano, and Jerry Dodgion and Carmen Leggio on alto and tenor saxes respectively—an all-star lineup to be sure.

Fast-forward to 2025: not only does Bonoff continue to be vitally active as a composer and arranger, he still plays his weekly gig as drummer at Arthur’s Tavern in Manhattan’s West Village with the delightful Creole Cookin’ Jazz Band. Prior to that, you could’ve found him hanging out at Birdland (the original Birdland, to be clear), checking out Bird, Diz, and Bud Powell. After building up his skills and experience as a drummer through the 1940s-1960s, he decided to learn jazz composition, studied long and hard, and hasn’t stopped creating and evolving since.

Drummer Greg Burrows, a long-time friend and musical partner of Bonoff’s, realized that very few artists have recorded Ed’s fantastic tunes and arrangements. With Bonoff’s heartfelt blessing, Burrows got the wheels in motion for an exciting new recording project. Burrows lined up some of New York’s best working jazz players, who all enthusiastically signed on for the rehearsals and recording sessions in the spring of 2024.

Not only are Bonoff’s compositional contributions to this album vitally inspiring and a joy to play, his input on production details and overall album concept were invaluable. Ed’s contributions to this project went way beyond his compositions and arrangements, though that alone would’ve been plenty.
