When a sound wave is produced, it interacts with every particle of matter it encounters. For two decades now, Montreal bassist Alain Bédard has helmed his storied AUGUSTE Quartet. After 6 albums and a series of tours that have taken them to every continent on the planet, the band is back with an exciting new album: Particules Sonores.

The long running L’Auguste Quartet is one of Canada’s best known jazz ensembles. The band has played an important role in Canadian jazz history – particularly in the band’s native province of Quebec. Their latest album is part of a series of events planned to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Effendi Records, the label Bédard founded, and one of the finest imprints in Canadian jazz history. The album not only showcases the beautiful playing of all four band members, but also features their compositions as well: from Bédard’s ode to a friend’s favourite perfume Profumo Chaneleone; to Marie Fatima Rudolf’s Terrain Neutre, a wish for a more understanding world; to Lambert’s A Goose Story, a musical narrative about a hooded character caught mid-heist; Particles Sonores is a rich collection of new music by an air tight ensemble.
